Day 15 - Tuesday 8th September

At breakfast this morning, we had been expecting an announcement about the progress of the repairs to the boat. Instead Thanos told us that there would be an announcement by the captain at lunchtime and we might depart after that. He suggested that we go shopping in town this morning.

Suzy took his advice and I went to the internet cafe. I returned to the boat mid-morning and noticed several mechanics at the back of the boat including a diver who seemed to be working on underwater repairs.

In the cabin, I found that there was no water supply and so I couldn't wash my hands or flush the toilet. Suzy returned from her shopping trip soon after. Amoung other things, she had bought some fashionable rubber sandles that would be ideal for pebbly beaches.

At about 12:30pm, Thanos told us that the engine had still not been fixed and they didn't know when it would be fixed. He said that the water supply was out of action and so we couldn't use the hand basin, have a shower or flush the toilet. We were obviously unhappy with all this information.

Carolina told him that they should refund us our money so we could continue our holiday without them. After some persuasion, Thanos said we could use their onboard fax to express our concerns to the company.

At lunch, the captain made a brief announcement that they were hoping to have the problem fixed by the morning. Suzy then rang Flight Centre to tell them about the problem.

After lunch, several groups of passengers prepared messages that could be faxed to the company about the situation. Thanos then told us that they don't have a fax machine on board as he had previously stated. Carolina then walked to the post office to fax the messages there - only to find that it had closed at 2pm.

Thanos had offered to provide a free excursion this afternoon to various parts of the island but we saw little point in doing so because we had visited them yesterday by hire car on his suggestion. Instead we caught the bus to nearby Lassi and went to the beach with the Columbian family.

Suzy and I returned on the 6pm bus and we went to the internet cafe to send an email to our travel agent about the problems with the boat.

When we returned to the boat, we heard that an inspector was going to come to check out the repairs and that the captain was hoping to leave at 4:30am for Ithaca.
